This Legends episode spotlights “Weird Al” Yankovic. He’s one of the most remarkable musicians of this or any other era. He’s known primarily for his numerous song parodies. But he’s much more than just a parodist - he’s a comedy musician, songwriter, singer, accordionist, record producer, music-video director, actor, voice actor, screenwriter, and children’s author. And above all else he’s a totally unique and spectacular entertainer. And his fans are dedicated and cult-like in their devotion to him.
He’s a 5x Grammy winner and a 17x Grammy nominee. He’s also won an Emmy. And he’s got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
I got to experience Weird Al firsthand this summer when I was invited by his longtime guitarist, Jim Kimo West, who recently was a guest on the podcast, to see the Weird Al show in concert, and I must say it blew me away. For 2 1/2 hours Weird Al held me and the rest of the audience spellbound, as he took us through his catalogue of rock parodies and schtick.
This Legends episode features excerpts from a few of his Greatest Hits: “Amish Paradise”, “Eat It”, “My Bologna” and “Another One Rides the Bus”.
So hats off to Weird Al, a one-of-a-kind weird guy.
